What is a full-back's role?

Djed Spence is a full-back, a key defensive position in football. They play on the sides of the pitch, protecting their goal from opposition wingers. Modern full-backs also often push forward to help with attacks, crossing the ball or making runs into the opposition's half, making them vital all-round players.
