How do football transfers work?

When a club wants to sign a player, they negotiate a transfer fee with the player's current club. If an agreement is reached, the player then discusses personal terms, like salary and contract length. Once all parties agree, the player undergoes a medical examination. If successful, the transfer is completed, and the player officially moves to the new club, as Andrey Santos did to Man Utd.
