What is a free-kick?

In football, a free-kick is awarded when a foul or infringement occurs. The opposing team gets to restart play by kicking the ball from the spot of the foul. Anton Stach's winning goal for Leeds against Nottingham Forest came from such a set-piece, meaning he kicked the ball directly towards the goal without it being in open play.
