What causes garden frost?

Frost forms when the temperature of surfaces, like plants in your garden, drops to freezing point (0C) or below. If there's moisture in the air, it freezes directly onto these surfaces as ice crystals. Clear skies and still air, often associated with cold fronts, allow heat to escape easily from the ground, making frost more likely.
