What causes brake fade?

Brake fade happens when your brakes get too hot, usually from repeated heavy use. This heat reduces their effectiveness, making them feel spongy and less able to slow the car. In Lewis Hamilton's case, his brake problem appeared very early, suggesting a fault rather than fade from sustained racing, which forced his early withdrawal.
