Explained in plain English

How does whisky get flavour?

Whisky gets much of its flavour from the wooden barrels it ages in. Over time, compounds from the wood leach into the spirit, and chemical reactions occur that soften the alcohol and develop complex aromas and tastes. The rapid temperature changes in space are expected to accelerate these interactions, potentially creating unique flavour profiles.
