How does heat affect tracks?

Extreme heat causes steel railway tracks to expand. If there isn't enough room for this expansion, the tracks can buckle or bend out of shape. This 'buckling' creates uneven sections that trains cannot safely pass over, leading to speed restrictions or, in severe cases, derailments. It's a significant challenge for railway maintenance in hot weather.
