UK Faces Economic Crisis as Workplace Sickness Costs Reach £85 Billion Annually
Britain faces an avoidable economic crisis as 800,000 additional workers have left employment since 2019 due to health conditions, costing employers £85 billion annually and representing 7% of GDP. Former John Lewis chief executive Sir Charlie Mayfield warns that without intervention, another 600,000 could leave the workforce by 2030. The government has recruited 60 major employers including Tesco, Google and John Lewis to trial new workplace health approaches over three years.
