Why a 2016 pledge from Theresa May is testing Nationwide

A customer's challenge to Nationwide's board is testing the limits of democracy for mutual organisations. This bid comes a decade after Theresa May's 2016 speech, where she pledged to give workers and consumers board seats. However, May's plans for radical boardroom reform were scuppered, with only three member-supported candidates ever elected to Nationwide's board.
