More than 160 people were arrested across France as students, trade unions and yellow vest activists joined nationwide protests over fuel prices, living costs and run-down schools. Police used tear gas in Paris, where a major march began at 1pm UK time. President Emmanuel Macron has appealed for calm. Authorities say more than 900 police officers have been hurt since the unrest began in mid-September.
