Higher costs and tighter supplies could affect businesses and shoppers as demand for whey protein keeps rising. On 9 June 2026, industry specialists and market data pointed to growing pressure on availability, linked to wider use of GLP-1 weight-loss medicines and advice to eat more protein. In north-west Europe, food-grade whey powder reached about €1,700 per tonne, while some suppliers had already sold out for the rest of 2026.
