UK spies helped create Troubles amnesty law
Hundreds of murder cases from Northern Ireland's Troubles were shut down when controversial amnesty rules took effect. United Kingdom intelligence agencies clandestinely assisted in drafting the 2023 Legacy Act, notwithstanding MI5's direct involvement in numerous fatalities throughout the hostilities. The law offered immunity to both soldiers and paramilitiaries before being scrapped by the current government in January.
