A new theory from a California astrophysicist suggests Venus's extremely slow rotation caused any moon to spiral inwards and crash. The "celestial cannibalism" likely happened within Venus's first billion years, according to the study published on Monday. Earth's faster rotation, in contrast, gradually pushes our moon further away by about 4 centimetres a year.
