Acting President Delcy Rodríguez is attempting to balance loyalty to her socialist base with intense pressure from the United States. Although she publicly criticised American imperialism, the leader recently met CIA officials and committed 50 million barrels of oil to President Donald Trump. Analysts believe she must obey Washington’s orders to avoid following deposed leader Nicolás Maduro, who currently awaits trial in New York.
