EU trade chief says UK must pay towards poorer EU regions

Maros Šefčovič, the EU's trade commissioner, informed MEPs on Tuesday that discussions encompass an equitable payment from the UK to help narrow economic and social disparities among the union's regions. He cited this as an objective for a meeting between Andy Burnham and Ursula von der Leyen, scheduled for 20 November in Brussels. The Tories say Burnham has already weakened his own negotiating position.
