IEA chief says Europe fell behind on electricity

Higher energy dependence could leave countries more exposed to imported fossil fuels and weaker economic independence. Fatih Birol said Europe reacted too slowly after the 2022 energy crisis and urged faster use of electricity across the economy, while the European Commission plans measures next week to encourage cleaner technologies. EU electrification stands at roughly 23 per cent.
