US sinks fifth Ecuadorian boat linked to drug trafficking

The US Southern Command sank another Ecuadorian vessel on Monday, claiming it was a floating refuelling station for drug operations. The sinking marks the fifth vessel US forces have intercepted in under two weeks, with all purportedly linked to the criminal organisation Los Choneros. Over the last year, at least 227 individuals have perished in 68 US operations involving vessels across the Caribbean and Pacific.
