China limits Japanese chip chemical exports, sparking protest
Japan is protesting new Chinese controls on dichlorosilane, a key chemical for making computer chips, saying it will hurt Japanese companies. China imposed the curbs on Tuesday, claiming Japanese exports of the material violated anti-dumping rules and harmed its domestic industry. Companies importing the chemical from Japan must now provide cash deposits of up to 99.2% to Chinese customs.
