Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart Quits DUP Over Drumcree Row

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart Quits DUP Over Drumcree Row

House of Commons, CC BY 3.0, via UK Parliament / Wikimedia Commons

Carla Lockhart, the MP for Upper Bann, has quit the Democratic Unionist Party in a row over its handling of the Drumcree parade dispute. She had wanted the DUP to withdraw Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, which would have forced Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill out as First Minister. The party leadership instead chose a different response. Lockhart will stay on as an independent unionist MP.
