The UK government has apologised to Ukrainian refugee children who were told to study Russian at school in England because no Ukrainian GCSE existed. A new Ukrainian GCSE is being developed by the AQA exam board with a £340,000 government grant, with first teaching due in 2028 and exams in 2029.
