Oleksandr Syrskyi, sacked as Ukraine's commander-in-chief this summer, told the BBC that Ukraine has stabilised the front line and broken Russia's ability to push forward. In his first interview since leaving the post, he claimed Russian losses were six times Ukraine's and said Moscow gained just 61 square kilometres in the first half of 2026. He also defended the 2024 Kursk incursion as a necessity.
