Ukraine and Russia talk peace, but major differences remain between sides

US envoys held several hours of talks in Kyiv with Ukrainian officials, later joined by UK and European security advisers. While all sides spoke positively about the discussions, Russia's Vladimir Putin believes his forces are making "tangible advances" in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky demands security assurances that are "strong and clear", such as a powerful military, and indicates no willingness to cede land.
