UK military chief admits forces not ready for conflict

Sir Richard Knighton, Air Chief Marshal, informed MPs on Monday that the UK military is currently unprepared for a large-scale war. Appearing before the Defence Committee, he stated equipment programmes are underfunded. Meeting defence review targets would involve difficult choices, he said. A £28 billion deficit over four years reportedly confronts the nation. According to the Air Chief Marshal, a comprehensive wartime defence strategy, including civilian medical mobilisation, is absent. John Healey, Defence Secretary, previously cautioned about armed forces' readiness.
