UK learner drivers face longer wait times for tests
The UK government has launched road safety strategy requiring learner drivers to wait up to six months between theory and practical tests. The proposal aims to give new drivers more experience before taking their practical exam. Young drivers aged 17-24 represent only 6% of licence holders but account for 24% of fatal and serious crashes. The strategy also includes plans to lower the drink-drive limit in England and Wales to match Scotland's stricter standards and introduce mandatory eye tests for drivers over 70.
