UK inflation hits 3.1% in August due to higher fuel costs

Inflation rose to 3.1% in August, the highest in five months, mainly because petrol and diesel prices jumped. Motor fuel prices increased by 23% compared to last August as the Middle East conflict disrupted global oil supplies. The Office for National Statistics said petrol prices hit their highest since November 2022, reaching 161.3p per litre.
