UK Demands Hard Cap in EU Youth Scheme Talks

Young people could live and work in the UK and Europe under a new scheme. EU negotiators have proposed a monitoring mechanism, described in Westminster as an "emergency brake" on participant numbers, as part of ongoing talks. The UK's Home Office and Foreign Office insist on a firm cap. Officials hope to finalise a deal by mid-2026, with applications opening in 2027.
