Typhoon Champi Kills One and Injures 500 in Taiwan

Typhoon Champi swept past Taiwan on Saturday, killing one person and injuring more than 500 as it uprooted trees and cut power to homes. Once a super typhoon and among the Pacific's strongest storms this year, it weakened but still carried gusts of around 78mph as it headed towards China. Much of Taiwan, including Taipei, remained largely shut and flights were cancelled across the island.
