Thousands of Israeli soldiers report mistreatment and abuse by commanders
Israel’s Ministry of Defence has disclosed that troops lodged more than 6,600 formal grievances in 2025 concerning alleged ill-treatment. According to the military watchdog’s annual findings, some complaints involved discriminatory language by commanding officers and failures to provide appropriate medical assistance. One case described a distressed soldier being told to end their own life. While the total number of reports showed little overall change, submissions from long-serving professional officers rose sharply by 40 per cent, citing inadequate salaries and limited institutional support during prolonged operations.
