The ID Card Rule Britain Keeps Rewriting
Question the foundation: does Britain do identity cards? History says briefly, then never. Wartime IDs were abolished in 1952, Labour's 2006 card scheme was scrapped by 2010, and now digital ID has fallen too, after a petition against it passed three million signatures. Each government assumes the public will accept ID this time. Three attempts in, that assumption keeps failing.
