Syria is trying to strike a security deal with Israel

President Ahmed al-Sharaa hopes the talks will stop border clashes, but insists his country still claims the occupied Golan Heights. During an Al Jazeera television interview, the leader also promised his military will not cross the border to intervene in Lebanon. He replaced Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, and now wants the US to drop Syria from its list of terrorism sponsors.
