Storm Ingrid Causes Pier and Sea Wall to Crumble

Storm Ingrid has battered Devon and Cornwall, causing significant damage. Part of Teignmouth Grand Pier, which opened in 1867, has washed away. A sea wall protecting the railway line at Dawlish has also partially collapsed, leading to the suspension of rail services between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth. Flood warnings are in place across the south Devon and south Cornwall coasts. The storm damage highlights the need for more work on coastal defenses.
