Steelworks Costing £1.3 Million Daily to Run
British Steel's Scunthorpe site requires significant public funds to remain operational, costing taxpayers £1.3 million each day. The Department for Business and Trade has spent £377 million over a nine-month period to stop the closure of the United Kingdom's only two remaining blast furnaces, which was set for April 2025. An independent report classified this £377 million as a loan with no clear repayment plan.
