Venezuela on Edge as U.S. Sends Warships to Caribbean
Venezuela initiated a nationwide mobilisation of its armed forces in November 2025, responding to increased US naval deployments in Caribbean waters. President Maduro ordered the action as US warships, including the USS Gerald Ford, entered the region. US officials stated their operations target narcotics trafficking, while Venezuelan authorities described the buildup as hostile. Defence analysts note this marks the largest American military presence in Latin America since the Panama intervention in 1989.
