Some US restaurants are banning tips to pay staff fixed higher wages and reduce pay inequality between front-of-house and kitchen staff. Chef Rachel Miller in Massachusetts says higher prices cover the full cost of paying her team properly, making incomes fairer regardless of gender or race. However, some customers struggle with the higher menu prices and other restaurants have switched back to a tipping model.
