Burnham Allies Push Starmer to Step Aside
Labour figures are trying to avoid a leadership battle that some believe could damage the party and government. After Andy Burnham’s Makerfield byelection win, his supporters and backers of Wes Streeting planned weekend efforts to persuade Keir Starmer not to enter any race for the leadership. One MP said about 200 Labour MPs were ready, if needed, to back Burnham’s nomination papers.
