Sperm whale clicks similar to human speech
Sperm whale communication systems show a complexity that closely mirrors human language, according to a recent study. Whale clicks, or codas, were found by Project CETI scientists to have varied frequencies akin to human vowel sounds, like a-vowels and i-vowels. This research involved attaching small underwater microphones to 15 sperm whales and collecting thousands of recordings for four years.
