The UK armed forces minister has said Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine shares “a lot of similarities” with the three-year build-up to the Second World War, warning that the conflict and broader threats to Britain and its allies resemble that era’s dangers. He stressed that Ukraine remains “the frontline of Europe’s defence” as Moscow’s attacks enter their fifth year, and highlighted modern threats including cyber warfare and disinformation alongside battlefield fighting.
