At the Gabba, Australia took a 44-run lead in the second Ashes Test, reaching 378-6 after England's poor fielding on day two. Five catches were dropped, including Travis Head's early chance off Jamie Smith's gloves. Ben Duckett missed two opportunities, and Brydon Carse put down Michael Neser. Despite the errors, England captain Joe Root defended the team's Ashes preparations. He stated that mistakes happen, but England must improve for day three.
