Review Proposes Cutting England's Police to Nine 'Super Forces'

Review Proposes Cutting England's Police to Nine 'Super Forces'

House of Lords / Roger Harris, CC BY 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

England's 39 police forces could be merged into as few as nine regional 'super forces' under an unpublished review by former Met chief Lord Hogan-Howe, the Guardian reports. Wales would get a single force, with a new National Police Service sitting above the regional forces. Some chief constables doubt the plan, asking whether bigger forces really perform better, while others fear ministers will delay it.
