75 MPs Demand Release of London Aquarium's 'Basement-Trapped' Penguins in Welfare Campaign
Seventy-five MPs from various parties have backed animal campaigners calling for 15 gentoo penguins to leave Sea Life London Aquarium. The birds, transferred from Edinburgh Zoo in 2011, have spent 14 years in what critics describe as a windowless, sunlight-free area with a shallow pool. Freedom for Animals’ petition for their move has received over 37,000 signatures. Merlin Entertainments states the penguin habitat is on the ground floor and complies with zoo regulations.
