Starmer to apologise for forced adoption policies
A formal apology for historic forced adoption policies is to be made by Sir Keir Starmer, acting on behalf of the state, to those who were affected. The move follows the adoption of approximately 185,000 babies born to unmarried mothers between 1949 and 1976, a practice driven by societal stigma. The Church of England has already apologised for its role in running about 100 mother and baby homes.
