Britain could pay £1bn yearly for EU access

British taxpayers may have to contribute around £1 billion annually to European budgets if the UK seeks closer economic integration with the bloc. Brussels has told Sir Keir Starmer this yearly fee is a condition for gaining further access to the EU's single market, a first since Brexit. European negotiators expect the Prime Minister to agree to this financial contribution in principle at a summit later this summer.
