US to pay Trump allies $1.7bn in settlement
A new $1.7bn fund is being set up to make payments to Donald Trump's allies, who allege they faced unfair federal investigations. The US justice department announced this fund after President Trump dropped his $10bn lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over his tax returns. Democrats criticised the arrangement, calling it a "slush fund" paid with taxpayer money.
