Police sackings hit record high for third year running

A record 461 police officers were dismissed or had contracts ended in England and Wales during 2025/26, marking the third consecutive year of increases. The Home Office data, published on Thursday, shows this is up from 164 dismissals in 2019/20. The Metropolitan Police accounted for the largest share, with 168 officers removed from their posts.
