OpenAI Launches GPT-5.2 Model After 'Code Red' Response to Google Competition
OpenAI released GPT-5.2 on December 11th following a company-wide 'code red' directive issued by CEO Sam Altman in response to Google's Gemini 3 model. The new AI system demonstrates improved capabilities in professional tasks. GPT-5.2 outperforms industry professionals on 70.9% of well-specified tasks across 44 occupations and achieves 94.2% on MMLU-Pro benchmark. The model features enhanced memory tracking across hundreds of thousands of words and reduced hallucination rates to 1.1%. Available to paid ChatGPT subscribers, the release was accelerated from its original end-December schedule.
