Newcastle City Council plans to award Kevin Keegan the Freedom of the City, its highest honour, after the former Newcastle United player and manager died in July aged 75. It would be the first time the council has given the title posthumously. Councillors will vote at a special meeting on 4 November, and his name would then be inscribed in the Civic Centre's Banqueting Hall.
