Nearly 2,000 fall ill from Indonesia's free school meals

Around 1,950 students and teachers across Indonesia became unwell this week after eating meals from a government programme. The incidents, reported between Tuesday and Thursday, affected people in Central Java, East Java, West Sumatra, Aceh, and South Sulawesi. Indonesia's free school meals programme adds to over 50,000 people affected in 560 cases nationwide since it started in January 2025.
