Malaysia's King declares emergency in Sarawak's Serian district over hazardous haze

Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim announced an emergency declaration for the Serian district of Sarawak, prompted by air pollution from Indonesian wildfires attaining hazardous concentrations. The emergency means 647 schools, government and private offices, and other sites in Serian will close from Monday. Disaster authorities have also extended a cloud-seeding operation until at least Monday, hoping for better weather to help clear the air.
