Whitbread reports lower food sales after plan

Whitbread reports lower food sales after plan

Customers are seeing fewer restaurant operations as the company shifts its focus towards hotels, while food and drink income has fallen. Whitbread released first-quarter figures on Thursday, showing a drop in food and drink takings during the three months to the end of May after setting out plans to leave much of its restaurant business. Sales in that division fell five per cent to £148m.
