UK Fuel and Mortgage Costs Rise After War
British people face higher fuel and mortgage costs due to the Middle East conflict. Disrupted oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz have pushed petrol up nearly 9–10p per litre since 28 February. Banks including Barclays, Halifax, and Santander have raised mortgage rates. Around 1.8 million mortgage deals expire in 2026, adding financial pressure.
